Saints Perpetua and Felicity are the subjects of our reading in the book In Caelo et in Terra. And they're some no nonsense, tough and admirable women! Hardcore saints!
They were arrested for being Christians in the 3rd century AD. Felicity was pregnant. Perpetua's dad pleaded with her to renounce her faith to save herself, and she was distraught at his pain, but refused to give up her faith. Felicity actually prayed that she would have her baby before the time of the martyrdom arrived, BECAUSE she wanted to join the martyrs and not be exempted because she was pregnant! Can you imagine?? God answered her prayer, she gave her baby up to be cared for by a local woman, and joined the others in martyrdom. WOW.
You can read more about them here.
God, thanks for the powerful, spirited example of these amazing saints. Saints Perpetua and Felicity, pray for us.
