what He meant literally
Today in the One Year Bible, John and Peter make a very important discovery. The reading is from John 20:1-31.
They look into the tomb, and they see that Jesus has actually, truly, literally risen from the dead. Until that moment, they weren't sure what Jesus meant when He said, "Rise from the dead." They thought He was speaking figuratively, which was understandable. He DID speak figuratively sometimes, and no one really made a habit of rising from the dead.
But when they looked into that tomb, they KNEW. And what they knew has a huge impact on us today. Because He wasn't only speaking literally when He talked about Himself rising from the dead. He also said that He was the first of many. He said that WE would also rise from the dead.
And He meant that literally, too.
God, thanks for teaching us that we will literally rise from the dead one day.
