how you know it's Jesus
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from John 21:1-25. Peter and the boys go fishing, since they don't know what else to do. They catch nothing. That's what happens when we're separated from Jesus, right? Apart from Him, we can do nothing.
Then they see someone on the shore. He asks if they've caught anything. Nope. Throw your nets on the other side, the mysterious figure suggests. This sounds vaguely familiar, but they don't jump to any conclusions. They do what the figure says, and lo and behold, they catch a boat load of fish.
So Peter jumps in the water (a very Peter thing to do) and the rest of the boys row the boat to shore. Jesus cooks some of the fish and they enjoy dinner.
But think about what happened. How did they know it was Jesus on the shore? Because when they did what He said, it worked.
Jesus tells us to "taste and see that the Lord is good." He told His disciples (including us) to "come and see" when they asked where He lived. God doesn't demand that we believe in Him without trying it out first. He says, "Come and try it. You'll see." And when we try it, we see.
God, thanks for inviting us to taste and see that You are good.
