set apart or salt and light

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Acts 7:1-29. Stephen tells us about Abraham being called out of the land he grew up in, and into a new place to live.

That was the gist of Abraham's call: leave your family and move to a new place. And that brings to mind our call to be holy: set apart from the world.

But at the same time, we're called to be salt and light IN the world. In it, but not of it.

So when do we do which one? Well, if you think about a typical week, you can see the answer. God calls us out of the world to go to church and meet with Him there. Then He sends us back into the world to carry that holiness and love to the world. Back and forth...called out, sent back in. Over and over, transforming the world as we go.

God, thanks for transforming the world through us.
