when faith without works is a good thing

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from John 4:43-54. Jesus is traveling through His home town, and John tells us that He was actually welcomed this time because the people there had seen the miracles He had performed. He chastises them, though, and asks how many wonders they have to see before they will believe?

We know that faith without works is dead, right? We read that in the second chapter of James. That means that if we say we have faith, but that faith doesn't prompt us to do good deeds, then we might as well not have any faith. That's when faith without works is bad.

But faith without works is GOOD when it means that we have faith in God without Him having to perform any wonders or miracles for us to believe in Him. That's the kind of faith He wants us to have. To trust Him, and have faith and confidence in Him, without Him having to prove to us over and over that He is there, that He loves us, and that He will take care of us.

Do you have that kind of faith without works? If not, it helps to read or listen to stories of things that He has done in other people's lives. That grows your faith.

God, thanks for helping grow our faith.
