the best request

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from John 12:20-50. And right away, we see a profound request. "Some Greeks", John tells us, came to Jerusalem and were friends of Philip. They came to him and said, "Sir, we want to meet Jesus." And the story goes on from there.

But stop there and let it sink in. They said, "We want to meet Jesus." That should be our request every time we go to church, shouldn't it? Every week (or even during the week if your church has daily services) when you enter the church building, your desire should be to meet with Jesus.

However, it doesn't stop there. Every morning when we wake up, throughout our day, we should be seeking to meet Jesus. In every face we see, we should seek to find Him. In the poor. In our family. In our enemy. Find Jesus everywhere, and serve Him where we find Him.

Sir, we want to meet Jesus.

God, thanks for teaching us such a great request. Help us look for You in every face we meet today.
