why He listens

Today we read about Jesus listening to His disciples in the One Year Bible reading from Luke 24:13-53. Jesus is walking along with two of His beloved followers on the road to Emmaus. Just like He walks with you and me. And they're talking about what has happened, expressing shock that He must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn't heard about the things that have happened.. And He asks, "What things?"

Now, you and I know that He knows perfectly well what things happened. But He listens as they explain it to Him.

That's what God does with us, right? He listens to us, even though He knows what we're going to say already, and what we're talking about better than we understand it. But He listens with the same delight that a parent has when listening to their child talk about their day at school. They know they're not going to hear anything new or learn anything they don't already know. But just hearing their children talk delights them. Because they love them.

That's why God listens to you, too.

God, thanks for listening to us, and for the reason why.
