only one thing worth being concerned about
Jesus once again uses a daily problem to teach us something very wise today in the One Year Bible reading from Luke 10:38-11:13.
Martha is upset. She's doing ALL the work, and Mary is just sitting by Jesus doing nothing! It's clearly not fair, and Martha isn't shy about telling Jesus just how unfair it is. And this is a good and healthy thing. We SHOULD feel close enough to God to tell Him when we feel things are wrong in our lives.
But Jesus, looking directly into the camera (a la The Office), tells Martha that there is only one thing worth getting that upset about. Martha is worried about everything. Jesus says "You really should only be concerned about what's most important." He doesn't come right out and say, "I'm most important", because that would be tacky. But He says that Mary has chosen correctly, as she sits by Him and learns.
What are you concerned about today? What worries you? What are you fussing about? Are you jealous of those who have the time to sit and pray?
Only one thing is important enough to get you that concerned. Choose wisely.
God, thanks for teaching us what's most important.
