nothing but Jesus crucified

Today we read about Jesus's victory over sin in the One Year Bible reading from Luke 23:13-43. Jesus is crucified. This doesn't SEEM like a moment of victory, does it? It seems like His moment of defeat, when all of the dreams of all of His family and friends came crashing down, since He was beaten and killed by the mob.

But the moment of greatest darkness became, through God's work, the greatest moment in history. That's very hard to explain, unless you understand the fourth cup. Listen to Scott Hahn explain it here. But Jesus overcame sin in the crucifixion, and made possible our salvation. When He rose from the dead, He defeated death and made it possible for us to live forever.

Maybe you're going through a dark time right now. Maybe you think that the world is crucifying you. Maybe you feel like this is the worst time of your life. Put it all in the hands of God. Ask Him to redeem your time. And watch as He does just what He did with the cross - He'll make a great and wonderful thing out of the darkness.

God, thanks for Your amazing love, which makes light out of darkness.
