what we think we know
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from John 6:22-42. In it, Jesus tells us some shocking things. That He is the bread of life, come down from heaven to do the Father's will. This was very hard for His listeners to accept, because they thought they knew where He came from. They thought they knew His father. But they were mistaken. So they had a choice to make - believe Jesus, or believe what they thought they knew.
We have that same choice, don't we? Jesus tells us not to worry. He tells us to love our enemies. He tells us to take up our cross and follow Him. He tells us to give away the wealth we can't keep in order to obtain the wealth that lasts forever.
And our brains, our experience, our senses tell us otherwise. They tell us to worry about what we're going to eat. They tell us to fear, hate, and mistreat our enemies. They tell us to avoid suffering like the cross. They tell us to keep our wealth because we'll need it to pay our bills.
So who are you going to trust? What you think you know? Or the one who knows us better than we know ourselves? It's up to you. Choose wisely.
God, thank You for teaching us better than what we think we know.
