a great promise to remember

In today's reading from the One Year Bible, Jesus reminds us of something very practical and very important. The reading is from John 16:1-33. He is telling His disciples that lots of scary things were about to happen to them. And He concludes with, "In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

That's so important for us to remember. It's the perfect balance between a realistic view of life: we WILL have troubles, no doubt. But the answer to that fact is hope. Take heart! And then He gives us the best reason for that hope. He has overcome the world.

When you're facing a rough day, a tough week, or even a miserable year, remember Who you serve. Take heart. He has overcome all of your difficulties. He is listening for your prayers. He WILL answer you. And He will lead you into all truth - and then on to salvation with Him in eternity.

He doesn't promise that your life will be easy. In fact, He points out that you WILL have troubles. But take heart! Be courageous! Trust in Him. He has overcome your troubles, and He will help you through them.

God, thanks for giving us a realistic view of life - and hope to make it through.
