the belly of our whale

St Augustine tells us something profound today in A Year with the Church Fathers.

He says that God goes with us wherever we go... even when things go wrong. He points out that God went with Jonah into the belly of the whale (or fish), and the predicament we find ourselves in is probably not the belly of a monster, but a human dilemma.

In any case, we can trust God to be there for us... with us. He will never leave us or abandon us. When things are the darkest, that's when He's closest to us. Nearer than our own breath.

Are you in a dark place today? Worries beating you down? Having a hard time finding hope? He's with you. Reach out to Him... and He will lift you up.

God, thank You for always being there for us.
