gifts of modern magi

St Gregory the Great tells us today about bringing gold, frankincense, and myrrh to Jesus in our daily lives in A Year with the Church Fathers.

He says that in honoring Jesus as prophet, priest, and king, we bring him these same gifts from our lives.

That brings us to the question of how we honor Him in those ways. As prophet, we listen to His word into our lives, bringing us peace and hope and grace. As priest, we recognize His act of reconciliation, saving us from our sins and putting us once more into a right relationship with God. And as King, we worship Him as Lord of the Universe.

When we relate to God in this way, it orders all of the rest of our lives. We are then able to see our other relationships correctly. We lose our fear and are able to live holy, courageous lives of faith and hope and love.

God, please help us to relate to You in the right way, so that our whole lives will then be made right.
