finding Jesus in others

The verse that Thomas Keating uses today in A Daily Reader for Contemplative Living is Galatians 3:28 - "You are one in Christ Jesus."

Keating says some things that struck me as very insightful and provocative today. He says that seeing Jesus in other people (that is, seeing what Jesus is doing in their lives, because no matter how far someone is from Him, He is still working in their life. Finding that flicker of life and fanning it into a flame is what sharing the love of God is all about) enables us to love them with "greater spontaneity". I love how he phrased that. We can more spontaneously... and therefore, more genuinely... love them when we see what God is already doing in their lives and JOINING HIM in that work.

Incidentally, the exact same thing can be said about our own lives, right? When we see what God is already doing in our own life, and then joining Him in that work... it enables us to love ourselves (because some days that's hard to do) with greater spontaneity and genuineness. Even joy.

God, thank You for working in our lives from the beginning, and giving us the incredible privilege of being able to join You in that work.

Wonderful post. It is so good when one gets to see Jesus in a persons life.
