becoming a real human

Lewis tells us today about becoming fully human in A Year with C.S. Lewis.

We are so used to "human" meaning fallible and full of error ("I'm only human, after all!") that we forget what we humans were originally intended to be. God made us to be eternal, to live with Him forever. And somewhere along the way, we lost sight of that.

But this Sunday we will celebrate the incarnation of the great plan God had to remind us who we are. To help us to be human again, in the fullest sense.

As Lewis tells us, Jesus came and died to Himself for years... then died literally, so that He might rise again from the dead. And here is the best part - He was the first to do this, but He's not the last. He taught us to do the same... to die to our sinful natures every day, to put our selfishness behind us and learn to love. So that when the time comes, and we die our physical deaths like He did... we will also rise from the dead, just like He said.

He went to prepare a place for us, that where He is, there we may also be. And I can't wait to see it!

God, thank You for teaching us how to be human.

I can't wait either, the very idea is enough for us to want to go. But as your Dad I want you to know that your Mom and I want you close for our last few years. We love you very much.
