letting go of fear

Lewis tells us about moral relativity today in A Year with C.S. Lewis.  And what he says is useful. But there was one little phrase that jumped out at me. And that was when he talked about the timidity of the present age.

It's easy to fall into fear. So many things to be afraid of. I won't list them, because that's the opposite of my point. But the media does a great job of making us afraid. Any little (or big) thing that goes wrong in the world is brought immediately to our attention in bright, vivid color and in Dolby surround sound. No wonder we find ourselves with fear in our hearts.

But God tells us over and over again throughout Scripture not to be afraid. 365 times, actually. You might notice that that corresponds to the number of days in the year. So God tells us every day... don't be afraid.

If you find fear in your life, the best thing to do is to replace it. What do you replace it with? Well, 1 John 4:18 tells us. There is no fear in love, for perfect love casts out fear. So if you find fear in your heart, ask God to fill you so full of His love that fear has no place to hide. And He will.

And once that fear is gone, watch and see what amazing things He'll do in your life. A heart full of God's love, fearless in the peace of Christ, cannot help but make the world an amazing place.

Thank You, God, for Your love, which casts out all of our fear.
