temptation

Lewis discusses temptation in today's excerpt from A Year with C.S. Lewis.

We all face it. The temptation to put ourselves first. Like Lewis says, just having an "I" lends itself to the temptation to put ourselves first. To demand our own way, rather than putting God and others before ourselves.

In this time of lent, it's a great time to think of how we put ourselves first, and to remind ourselves that while it's part of the human condition to do so, it's part of our redemption to learn to love others and God first.

Thankfully, He helps us do that. If we ask, He freely gives. "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil," He teaches us to pray.

And when we fail (because we all do from time to time), He's faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We just need to remember to come back to Him and ask for that forgiveness.

God, thanks for helping us in our time of temptation - and forgiving us when we fail.
