ears to hear

Today's readings: Amos 7:1-9:15, Revelation 3:7-22, Psalm 131:1-3, Proverbs 29:23

"Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches."

Do you have ears that hear? Sounds like a funny question. But God is speaking to us every day. He is speaking to you, and maybe you're hearing Him, but maybe you're missing out.

If you're missing out, you're missing out on some great stuff. See, He wants to make your life amazing. He knows you better than anyone - even yourself. And He knows how to make your life fantastic - far better than you can even imagine. He knows what you REALLY want, not what you think you want from watching TV commercials and seeing what your neighbors have. He knows what will truly satisfy you. And to find out what that is, you have to listen to Him.

How do we listen? Well, there are a few things you can do. God speaks to us in various ways. One way is through the Bible. So right now, today, when you read the Bible reading for the day, you were listening to Him speaking to you. Another way is through our conscience. So if you feel like you should do something, or shouldn't do something, then that just might be God talking to you. If what you feel like you should do scares you, then maybe bounce it off of someone you respect and see what they say. But God does call us to scary things sometimes.

If you feel like maybe you're not hearing His voice even though you want to, it's possible you might have some kind of unconfessed sin in your life that you need to confess to have "ears that hear" once again. Just ask Him to show you if you have any sin blocking your ability to hear Him. Believe me, He wants you to get rid of that sin and hear Him again. So He WILL answer yes to that prayer. If you don't think of a sin pretty soon, then let that go. Don't dwell on it. It's easy to become too scrupulous and start nitpicking yourself into misery, trying to find the hidden sin. Maybe there isn't one.

And finally, ASK Him to speak to you, and to help you listen. He wants you to hear Him. He will help you.

God, thank You for speaking to us, and calling us to do amazing things with our lives.
