teach me

Today's readings: Zechariah 6:1-7:14, Revelation 15:1-8, Psalm 143:1-12, Proverbs 30:24-28

So much is contained in those two words: teach me.

They seem so simple, but they mean so much. First, it means we believe in God. We can't ask someone to teach us that we don't believe is there. Then, it means we're talking to Him, which is what we're made for to begin with.

Next, it means that we WANT to do what He wants us to do. That's huge. To align your will with God's will means great things for your life. It means finding what YOU were created to do... and to do it. This brings you great joy and satisfaction. Only God knows what brings you the deepest joy, and when you seek His will and do it, you find the joy that only YOU can experience. Pretty cool, huh?

But it means even more. It means you are humbly coming to Him with a teachable spirit. If you have ever been in a position of authority, you know how important it is for the people you are responsible for to be directable. If they resist your direction, then it limits what they can do under your supervision. But if they listen to your instructions and follow your lead, you and they can go far and do great things. With God it's the same way. If we open our hearts and minds to His direction, He can take us to great things.

Wherever you find yourself in life, you can pray those two words right now. Teach me.

And believe me, He will.

God, thank You for teaching us such profound things with such simple words.
