draw near

Today's readings: Ezekiel 40:28-41:26, James 4:1-17, Psalm 118:19-29, Proverbs 28:3-5

James tells us today that if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. You may find yourself asking "Do I WANT to be close to God? That doesn't sound fun... that sounds kinda scary... that sounds boring."

Let me assure you... being close to God IS scary, but in a very good way - it's an adventure! And it is ANYTHING but boring. And it is the most fun you can have! Being close to God means being TRULY YOURSELF for the first time in your life. Because when we walk close to Him, He makes us more ourselves, and less what everyone else tries to force us to be. And He puts us in situations that cause us to stretch and grow. Trust me - being close to God is amazing.

So ... how do you draw near to Him? Well, if you've read my blog at all.... you know what I'm gonna say. ASK! Ask God to help you draw near to Him. And He will help you. That is another of those prayers that you will ALWAYS get a yes answer to. Every time. Because you're asking God to do something that He already wants to do so badly. He wants to be close to you, more than anything else. So when you ask Him to help you come close, He will do it!! And then He'll draw near to you, in return.

James talks about something else we can do... take a look at your life, and see if you find any sin. If so, repent. Turn away from your sin and turn back to God. This will soften your heart. And spend time with Him. That might mean reading your Bible. It might mean taking a walk in nature. It might mean just sitting quietly and listening for His voice. As you sit and listen, if you suddenly get a thought in your head to do something nice for someone... that's His voice. If you suddenly get a thought to hurt someone... that's not Him. ;)

Draw near to God... and He will draw near to you.

Thank You, God, for loving us so much that you ALWAYS say yes when we ask to be nearer to You.
