your words

Today's readings: Jeremiah 1:1-2:30, Philippians 4:1-23, Psalm 75:1-10, Proverbs 24:17-20

The lesson for today comes from Jeremiah. God tells Jeremiah, "Look! I have put my words in your mouth."

He still does that, you know? He has put His words in your mouth, too. And He wants you to say them. The world needs to hear the words He's given you. He gives a different set of them to each of us, and He asks us to speak up. The world is hurting, and it needs to hear the words He's given you.

Does that sound scary? Well, there are many things that Phil 4:13 does NOT mean. But one thing it DOES mean is that God will give you the strength you need to do what He asks you to.

How do we find the words He's given us? We look to our lives. Each life has something to say. But don't focus on the negative parts. Instead, follow the advice that we read in Philippians today: "Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable, and right and pure, and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." Look at your life, find the things that are good (every life has them!) and then speak those words to the world.

They're waiting.

Thank You, God, for giving us goodness in our lives, and for asking us to share the words of that goodness with the world.

The readings right now are very deep. Men have pondered them forever. Truth, honorable, right, pure, lovely and admirable such awesome traits. Things that are excellent and worthy of praise, is where our hearts and minds need to focus. With the impersonal use of the Internet and such, we as humans have become very mean spirited on many subjects. The importance of stating our beliefs to the point of hurting others or just to prove we know something without the personal relationship of contact is very harmful to our society. I want to blame the media for these things but......it is our own personal desire to participate in something that God and only God has the answers. If we spend our energy on the virtues listed above we will be the b a on that God wants us to be and the importance of being right in a debate will surely diminish. One of the sayings my Dad would say as I was growing up was, " stop arguing, what good does it do to continue arguing with someone until you become angry and say things you really don't mean. Being right is not the most important in life. How does it feel to be right but alone as you have offended everyone in your actions and words. Know in your heart the truth , stand up for your values but not by hurting others."
