never far from any of us

today's readings: 2 Kings 9:14-10:31, Acts 17:34, Psalm 144:1-15, Proverbs 17:27-28

wow, great readings today! in the OT, we read about the shoot and ask questions later dude named Jehu. it was exciting to read about this guy, riding like a madman, telling all the messengers that came out to meet him, "What do you know about peace? Fall in behind me!" and you can just SEE the eunuchs pop their heads out the window when he asks who is with him... and then tells them to throw Jezebel out the window!

the Psalm was beautiful and a welcome respite on a day of alarming news. even the Proverb was especially pithy - a fool seems wise if he'll just shut up!

but the best part was the NT reading. i LOVED the talk that Paul gives in Athens.

"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. From one man he made all the nations... He did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 'For in him we live and move and have our being'"

so good!

God, thank you for being so close to us that we can find you in the darkness.

Our world changed today. This is a calling to all to decide where their hearts truly live. Love they neighbor is essential to the hope of salvation for others (our reason to remain here on earth). Persecution became much more a strong possibility, " Choose you this day whom you will serve, as for me and my house, I will serve the Lord". "For in Him we live and move and have our being."
