the Jesus prayer

today's readings: Joshua 13:1-14:15, Luke 18:1-17, Psalm 85:1-13, Proverbs 13:7-8

i highly recommend reading this. it's about the Jesus prayer, which is very simple. it goes like this: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

there is a profound depth to that prayer, and it is so simple and so amazing that it would be great to pray it at least every day. it's so simple you can say it to yourself as you go about your day. as the article says, it puts you in the presence of God like few other prayers.

as you know from the reading today, it can be derived from the prayer by the tax collector in the Temple in today's readings that went away justified, not like the self righteous Pharisee who looked down on him. how easy it is to be that Pharisee.

God, please remind me to pray the Jesus prayer, so that i can get rid of the little Pharisee in my heart.
