what it boils down to

today's reading: Deut 9:1-10:22, Luke 8:4-21, Psalm 69:19-36, Proverbs 12:2-3

so in Deuteronomy 10:12, we see summed up the most important thing in life. seems pretty important, huh?

And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you?

how would you answer this?

the writer of Deuteronomy (some say Moses) wrote the answer... He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.

there it is. the most important thing in life. fear God (which doesn't mean cower and shudder and live in fear... it means respect him and make him God of your life), live in a way that pleases him, love him and serve him with all of your heart and soul. if we do that, everything else will fall into place.

notice the word "only". i think that's significant. it's pretty much saying "this is it. do this, and you're in good shape."

God, please help me do this.

The thing that kept jumping off the page at me was God letting them know that pride and arrogance were our main problem as Christians. The people of His day were told repeatly that they were chosen due to the wickedness of the world and His promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Lord let me chose love over wickedness in my walk everyday.
