now

today's readings: Leviticus 27:14 - Numbers 1:54, Mark 11:1-25, Psalm 46:1-11, Proverbs 10:23

check out this page it is full of really good quotes about living in the present moment. Maslow says it's part of mental health... and you know what he's talking about. people who are mentally unhealthy often live in the past or in the future... not in the now.

our reading today talks about living in the now. it says "be still and know that He is God." don't race ahead or look behind you. live in the present moment.

as I've said in previous blogs... scientists have been studying happiness, and have discovered one principle that makes people happy no matter what their background, beliefs, income, or ethnicity. this one thing makes people happy universally, and lacking it makes people less happy. that one thing is this: living in the moment.

this doesn't mean live irresponsibly. it doesn't mean to spend all your money on "living it up" today, and taking no thought for tomorrow. it means enjoy what you're doing right this moment. let go of your fears for tomorrow and your regrets from yesterday. be still. be.

and know. be and know. those don't mean running and doing. they mean being still... stopping and experiencing the moment you're in. this is the key to happiness.

be and know.

God, please help me be still each day... and to know that you're there with joy for me.
