wait on the LORD

today's readings: Exodus 23:14-25:40, Matt 24:29-51, Psalm 30:1-12, Prov 7:24-27

so we didn't actually read Isaiah 40:31 today... but we might as well have. what we read, when you add it together, pretty much equals "wait on the LORD and you will renew your strength"

God told the people in Exodus that He wouldn't drive out the people inhabiting their promised land all at once... they had to wait until it was time to move in. and then He sent Moses up on the mountain where Moses waited for six days... and then He met with him on the 7th day.

how often do we rush to God and ask for things and then get discouraged and leave before He replies? we rush ahead so often that we miss when He actually answers us.

we're told over and over in the Bible to wait... waiting on Him is good for us. it teaches us so many things. we have lost sight of this truth to a great extent today... since we live in a time of instant gratification, it's sometimes hard to remember that waiting is good for us.

but then we get the payoff in the Psalm... "O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health...His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning."

hold on. it's hard sometimes. it hurts. the meantime can be pretty mean sometimes.

but joy is coming. it comes with the morning.

I totally agree with you and as always am proud you're my son. However, I'm getting old.
