Today in the One Year Bible we read from Matthew 26:49-68. The religious leaders are trying to find a reason to kill Jesus. They arrest Him and have lots of witnesses lie about Him. Then the leader demands that Jesus answer one question. "Are you the messiah?"
And Jesus tells the truth. In doing so, He submits to torture and death.
That's what speaking the truth sometimes means. In the US at this time, it doesn't usually mean you'll be tortured and killed for speaking the truth. But it will cost you. It might cost you your job, your relationships with family members, your popularity.
But we need to decide ahead of time that we will tell the truth... no matter what it costs.
God, thank You for giving us the perfect example of what it means to tell the truth. Give us the courage.
