Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
Zechariah 14:1-21
Revelation 20:1-15
Psalm 148:1-14
Proverbs 31:8-9
Let's look at the proverb. It says that we should "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves." And of course that refers to several groups of people, including the poor and the marginalized. But the biggest and most grievous example of those who cannot speak for themselves are the unborn.
The church teaches very clearly and unequivocally that abortion is always wrong in every circumstance. And I'm not going to debate here whether exceptions should be made in the cases of incest or rape. But what I am going to do is ask you how YOU can get involved in doing what the proverb says and speak up for the unborn.
The first and most important thing you can do is pray. Pray for an end to abortion. Pray for good legislation that will help women get the assistance they need so that abortion is no longer a possibility. Pray that women who are considering abortion will realize what they're actually considering.
Second, you can get involved with your hands and feet. Go to a local abortion facility (like Planned Parenthood) and pray in front of it. I did this for months at the facility in College Station where Abby Johnson was the manager, and not only did that facility close, but Abby became one of the most famous outspoken Pro-life people on the planet. Not because I prayed and my prayers were powerful, but because many of us prayed and God heard us and answered our prayers.
Third, you can donate money to organizations that defend the unborn by providing resources and information to women in crisis. Sidewalk Advocates for Life and And Then There Were None are two great organizations that do just that. Do a quick google search and you'll see how you can donate - or even get involved yourself in becoming a sidewalk advocate for those who need our voices more than anyone in the world.
God, thanks for making it clear that our responsible is to speak up for those who can't speak for themselves.
