Paul is being a fool: One Year Bible Reading for September 11

Today we talk about these verses in the One Year Bible:

Isaiah 6:1-7:25
2 Corinthians 11:16-33
Psalm 54:1-7
Proverbs 23:1-3

Let's talk about 2 Corinthians. Paul has put on his motley cap and he's talking to as as a fool. He's bragging about his accomplishments and his identity to let the people of Corinth know that they really should listen to him. It would be like someone coming to speak to you today and letting you know what degrees they have from which schools so you'll know they actually studied.

But he points out that this is foolishness. Because humility is the better road. It's better to be quiet and do our work without a ton of hoopla and bragging. St Therese of Lisieux was on to something with her "Little Way". The Little Way is, I think, actually the best way. It saves us from a ton of foolishness.

God, thanks for teaching us to keep it simple.
