Pray for China: One Year Bible Reading for July 10

 

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

1 Chronicles 9:1-10:14
Acts 27:21-44
Psalm 8:1-9
Proverbs 18:23-24

Let's look at 1 Chronicles. We read that Israel was taken captive to Babylon because of her unfaithfulness. There are several enemies that Israel faced over the years - and I remember them due to a mnemonic device I learned in college. It goes: Elephants Play Stupidly Around Big People. If you can remember that silly sentence, you can remember all of the enemies of Israel: Egypt, Philistia, Syria, Assyria, Babylon, and Persia. 

There are many today who worry that China might invade and take over the US. And if they treat Christians here the way they've treated them in China, it would be similar to the Babylon captivity that the children of Israel experienced.

For that reason (and millions more!) let's pray for China. Pray for the Christians who live there now. Pray for those who are held hostage and tortured by their own government. Pray for China's conversion - because we may have a vested interest in that conversion.

God, thanks for warning us that sometimes countries take over other countries and we should pray about that.
