Even Jesus: One Year Bible Reading for July 28

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

2 Chronicles 21:1-23:21
Romans 11:13-36
Psalm 22:1-18
Proverbs 20:7

Let's look at the Psalm. This is the song that Jesus referred to from the cross. See, when Jesus said, "My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?", he was referring to this entire Psalm. All of the Jewish people present (including His mother and St John) would have finished the song in their heads, like if someone said, "Our Father who art in Heaven" to you, you'd finish the prayer. And in this Psalm, we find lots of prophecies of what Jesus would suffer on the cross. His clothes being divided and gambled for. His bones being pulled out of socket. It's like the Psalmist was watching Jesus on the cross, and describing Him.

Now let's step back into our time and space, today in 2022. You might feel abandoned by God sometimes. You might feel neglected. You might feel like your enemies are winning over you. First, realize you're in good company. Even Jesus, who lived a perfect and sinless life, felt abandoned and neglected sometimes. Second - realize that Jesus defeated death on the cross and then rose again from the dead, and you will also see your sins defeated and you also will rise to eternal life with Him.

Just don't give up. Put your trust in Him, and He will save you. He promises.

God, thanks for reaching out to us through Psalm 22.
