Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
2 Kings 17:1-18:12
Acts 20:1-38
Psalm 148:1-14
Proverbs 18:6-7
Let's look at the Psalm. So the psalms were (and are) actually songs. And this song is a worship song. It's basically "Hallelujah" over and over, with different reasons to praise God thrown in. In case you wondered, Allelu means "praise" or "glorify" and "jah" or "yah" means "God". It's the short form of YHWH, which is the Hebrew word for God, literally meaning "I am that I am."
So one way we can interpret this song is "praise the One Who Is." Which is really interesting when you consider that so many people today deny that God is. His very name assures us that He is. Of course, we have to believe that He told us His name in order to be assured. That's why the book of Hebrews tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Because you have to have faith to believe that He exists, and that faith pleases Him.
So when we say, "Hallelujah" and mean it, we are expressing our faith that He exists and that He is amazing. So much packed into one little word!
God, thank You for being the great I am, YHWH. Hallelujah!
