Feeling Directionless: One Year Bible Reading for May 24

Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:

2 Samuel 4:1-6:23
John 13:31-14:14
Psalm 119:17-32
Proverbs 15:31-32

Let's look at Psalm 119. It's the longest chapter in the entire Bible! And the last sentence of today's reading is something we see repeated throughout the Psalms. See, in the time that the Psalmist was writing, like today, people were wandering around without knowing what was going on. Many people, maybe most people? longed to have some kind of compass to give their lives direction.

And the Psalmist latches on to the same compass that we're looking at today - the Bible. He says, "I run in the path of Your commands, for You have broadened my understanding". The whole chapter is praising the wisdom that God gives us, allowing us to find our way to truth and health in our lives, rather than being washed away in the silly theories and bad thinking that the world throws at us every day.

So do you want to feel more grounded and like your life has purpose? Turn off the news and open your Bible. There you'll meet Jesus, who is the ground of all being. He'll give you direction.

God, thanks for giving us truth in this sea of foolishness.
