Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos: Great Confessor

Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos. He was from Bavaria. He became a priest in the 19th century, and did mission work. He practiced severe penances, and yet retained a cheerful demeanor. He spent a great deal of time in the confessional and heard many confessions, emphasizing the power of penances to turn away from sin and live holy lives. He went to New Orleans in the mid 19th century and worked among the sick during an epidemic of yellow fever. He eventually succumbed to the fever and died. You can read more about him here.

The sacrament of reconciliation is available to you today. Have you availed yourself of its graces lately? He's waiting for you there.

God, thanks for this priest who reminded us how important confession is. Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, pray for us.
