Today we read about St Peter Faber in the book In Caelo et in Terra. He was a brilliant man with a fantastic memory. And he was given the added blessing of living during the time of St Ignatius of Loyola and Francis Xavier. Together, they were the very first Jesuits.
But St Peter Faber suffered from serious depression. He confessed his struggles to St Ignatius, who counseled him. He was summoned to be a resource for the council of Trent, but he passed away at 40 years old before the council started. You can read more about him here.
Like all of us, St Peter Faber was had blessings and he had struggles. He didn't let his weaknesses keep him from doing what God called him to. Even though he suffered, he still did amazing things with his life.
What is God calling you to do? How can you give Him your weaknesses and allow Him to use even them for His glory?
God, thanks for the great example of this gifted and depressed man. St Peter Faber, pray for us.
