St John Eudes: He Revived France

So many great saints came from France, including my favorite saint of all time, St Therese of Lisieux, and her parents Louis and Zelie Martin. But their spiritual health might not have been so rigorous if it weren't for the work of the saint we talk about today. We read about St John Eudes in the book In Caelo et in Terra.

In the 17th century, the church in France had suffered some decay. St John Eudes preached missions all over France and revived the church. He reached out to the poor, especially women forced into prostitution and orphans. He faced quite a bit of opposition as he brought life back to the church, but he persevered in the face of these attacks. You can read more about him here.

St John sowed seeds of faith and spiritual vitality that saw fruit in the lives of the many French saints who came after him. What seeds are you sowing today that will bear great fruit in the future?

God, thanks for the tireless work of this man, who made the way clear for so much that came after him. St John Eudes, pray for us.
