St Oliver Plunkett: This is the Time for Doing Good

St Oliver Plunkett is the amazing subject of our reading today in the book In Caelo et in Terra. He lived in Ireland and England during the heavy persecution of Catholics in England. He ministered to tens of thousands, baptizing them and confirming them. He was finally arrested on charges of trying to overthrow the English crown for the French. He was the last of the English martyrs. You can read more about him here.

While he was still working in England, he was famous for saying, "This is the time for doing good." And that is a lesson we can definitely take to heart today! Today we live in a time when things are dark in some ways. Sex trafficking is raging out of control. Radical religious groups are threatening the lives of people in the middle east, trying to eradicate the nation of Israel. And the US government is teetering on the brink of totalitarianism and socialism. China is threatening a strong response against the United States. But now IS the time for doing good! We Christians are still free to do things like feed the hungry (which Tom Cottar is doing on a daily basis!) and try to give pregnant women hope so they will keep their babies (which Lauren Muzyka has been doing for many years!)

How can YOU "do good" while the time is now?

God, thanks for the shining example of this man who did so much good. St Oliver Plunkett, pray for us.
