St Lawrence of Brindisi: He Spoke the Language Needed

Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about St Lawrence of Brindisi. He was born Julius Caesar de Rossi. Quite a name to live up to. But he did! He became fluent in at least eight languages, including Greek, Latin, and Hebrew. He memorized so much Scripture that another priest remarked that if the Bible were ever lost, St Lawrence could reproduce it from memory.

He preached during the time of the Reformation, and brought many protestants back into the Catholic church through his zeal and persuasive preaching. He was named a doctor of the church in 1959. You can read more about him here.

St Lawrence used the gifts God gave him to respond to the needs of his time. What gifts has God given you? What needs in your time can you respond to? If you don't know the answers to these questions, ask Him. He'll show you.

God, thanks for the great example of this talented priest. St Lawrence of Brindisi, pray for us.
