St Peter the Apostle: God Even Uses People Like You and Me

Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about St Peter. What an unlikely hero for the church! He was a simple fisherman. If Jesus were to call Peter today, think of him as a car mechanic or a day laborer. He wasn't one of the highly educated scribes or one of the greatly admired Pharisees. He had pretty much zero religious education. But Jesus chose him, and made him into the leader of the new church. He made him the first pope! You can read more about him here.

This shows you how God works. He doesn't look for impressive, amazing people so that He can trust things to the important. He seeks those with a good heart, with a teachable spirit, and with faith in Him. If you have those things (or are willing for Him to GIVE you those things), He will use you.

God, thanks for giving us this wonderful example of how you use the simple to do great things. St Peter, pray for us.
