St Hubert: Who is Hunting Whom?

Today we read about St Hubert in the book In Caelo et in Terra. He was an avid hunter, and one day he was out hunting when he saw a stag with a crucifix in between its horns! At the same moment he heard a Voice calling him to conversion. So he became a Christian and sought out St Lambert to mentor him. Apparently St Lambert did a good job because when St Lambert was martyred, the pope appointed St Hubert to be the next bishop! He did a great job as bishop and is now called upon as the patron saint of hunters and metalworkers. You can read more about him here.

The thing you might notice about this story is that Hubert did not pursue God. God saved Hubert of His own volition. And that's what God does with each of us. We sometimes get the idea that we find God because we go looking for Him. But we need to remember what Aslan told Scrubb in the book The Silver Chair, "You would not have called to me unless I had been calling to you."

So pray that God will call and save those who are lost today. Especially the people you don't like!

God, thanks for the great example of You hunting down this renowned hunter. St Hubert, pray for us.
