St Zita: Miracle Worker

Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about St Zita. She was a worker who would smuggle bread to the poor. She was very devout and had a special devotion to the Eucharist. The book In Caelo said that "surprisingly" this did not make her popular with the people she lived with. It makes me wonder about the writers, since throughout history being devout has often made people unpopular.

She performed several miracles during her lifetime, and then had a vision of her death at age 60 and was able to prepare for it. The book doesn't mention that she then went on to be an incorruptible! Her body is on display and is often venerated and touched by pilgrims looking for a miracle. You can read more about her here.

God, thanks for the example of this woman who lived her life for you even when it wasn't popular. St Zita, pray for us.
