Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about a wonderful woman I'd never heard of. Her name was Scholastica and she was Benedict's sister! THE Benedict. Like, the founder of the Benedictine order of priests. And, like him, she founded an order of nuns who lived nearby. As the book says, they encouraged each other to live holy lives.
One funny story is that one time they were having their annual visit, since they only saw each other once per year, and Scholastica asked Benedict to stay longer because she felt she would die soon. He said he couldn't because that would break the rule of his order. She prayed for a storm and God sent it, preventing Benedict from leaving. She said, "God granted what my brother would not."
She died three days later.
You can read more about her here.
God, thanks for giving us this storm-bringing sister. St Scholastica, pray for us.
