Today in In Caelo et in Terra, we read about St Blaise. You've probably heard of St Blaise in conjunction with the blessing of the throats every February 3. While St Blaise was being led to his martyrdom, he miraculously healed a boy choking on a bone, and told a wolf to give up a pig it was carrying off and it did. You'd think his captors would have seen these miracles and let him go, but they didn't. They took him to prison, tortured him, and then beheaded him. You can read more about St Blaise here.
St Blaise was thinking about others, even about the welfare of a pig, while being led to his death. How much more should we be thinking about others' needs during our lives, when we're not preoccupied with our martyrdom?
God, thanks for the example of this unusual saint. St Blaise, pray for us.
