Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Daniel 8:1-27. In this passage, God shows Daniel some scary things that were going to happen. He tells him not to be afraid, but it still disturbs Daniel so much that he calls in sick to work for several days and just tries to deal with what he's been shown.
If you read this article, you see some good advice. Over and over in the Bible we are told not to be afraid. We aren't told this because there isn't anything to be afraid of. There were plenty of things in Daniel's time to fear. There are plenty of things now. But God tells us not to be afraid. He ENCOURAGES us, which means He fills us with courage. The word "courage" comes from the word for "heart." We are to "take heart" and be brave - not because there is nothing to fear, but because the one who is with us is greater than anything we will ever be afraid of.
In this world, you WILL have troubles. But take heart. He has overcome the world.
God, thanks for encouraging us.
