your funeral

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Ezekiel 27:1-28:26. In this passage, God tells Ezekiel to sing a funeral song for Tyre. Tyre is a city that is about to be destroyed, and God is trying to get its attention so it'll straighten up.

What song do you want sung at your funeral? How do you want people to act? What would you want people to say? The picture above is sobering, isn't it? All of our lives, we are trying to make friends and be important to someone, aren't we? Don't we all want people to miss us when we're gone?

Today's reading is a good opportunity to memento mori - remember that you're going to die one day. If you could pick just one thing that people will remember about you, what would it be?

Did you do anything today to make people remember that about you?

God, thanks for teaching us what's important in life.
