Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Ezekiel 47:1-48:35. Ezekiel's guide takes him to a river and shows him that this river and its waters will heal whatever they touch, even so much as healing the Dead Sea.
This seems impossible, doesn't it? The Dead Sea has been full of hypersalinated, toxic water for centuries. It's so salty that it will burn your eyes, make any cuts or shaved skin feel like it's on fire, and generally make you miserable if you get it in your mouth. Even without the eyes, mouth, or cut irritation, just being in the water for any length of time will eventually make your skin feel like it's burning and needs to be rinsed off. Here is an article about swimming in the Dead Sea.
So how can this river that is being shown to Ezekiel make the Dead Sea a living sea again? And, on a related note, how can God make me whole, healthy, and alive again when I've been away from Him for so long? Well, the river can, and God can. They are both full of more life than the Dead Sea is full of death. The life of God will overpower the death in the Dead Sea, and His life will also overpower the death in your life, and make you live, whole and healthy once more.
Just ask Him to take you to that river and wash you clean, inside and out.
God, thanks for overpowering all forms of death and making us alive again.
