our new problem is actually ancient

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Jeremiah 4:19-6:15. This book was written about 2600 years ago. But if you didn't know that, you'd think it was written today. Listen to this, "My people are foolish, and do not follow me, says the Lord. They are stupid children who have no understanding. They are clever enough at doing wrong, but they have no idea how to do right!"

Doesn't that describe life in 2020 perfectly? And what did Jeremiah tell the people of his time to do?

To repent, of course. To seek God's face. To turn from their wicked ways.

That's what we need now. We can't expect those who don't believe in God to do it, they're blind to both His reality and their own conscience. But we can. Those of us who know God, we can repent of our sins, we can speak the truth in love to a culture that hates the truth more and more the farther they slide away from it.

And most of all, we can seek His face. We can lift ourselves, our families, and our nation up to God in prayer, asking Him to heal all three.

God, thank You for calling us to repent and seek You. Help us to lead our nation and our world back into Your will.
