a good leader

Today we read from Nehemiah 5:14-7:73a in the One Year Bible. Wow. 73 verses! That's a long chapter. Anyway, we find Nehemiah demonstrating some examples of a good leader in these verses.

He has access to wealth, but instead of taking advantage of this, he doesn't even accept the food allowance that is warranted to him as a leader. He works hard, setting the example for his people. He refuses to let corruption tempt him. He's a good man.

We can learn from his example. It's sad that this is something we have to look up to, isn't it? That lack of corruption and working hard are the exception rather than the rule? But we know from centuries of experience that these ARE in fact the exception. So let's do our best to be good leaders, and follow Nehemiah's example.

God, thanks for showing us good leadership in Nehemiah.
