Bozez and Seneh

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 1 Samuel 14:1-52. We read about two cliffs, one named Bozez and the other named Seneh.

Yes, you read correctly. The cliffs had names. That seems odd, doesn't it? When was the last time you named a cliff?

But we do that as humans. We name things. You might name your car. Or your boat. Some people name their houses. And of course we name our pets. Why do we do that? To assert ownership? To anthropomorphize them?

In the Bible, they often name things so that we remember them as a place where God did something. For instance, a stone was named Ebenezer because it was a reminder of God's faithfulness. It's good to have reminders of His faithfulness and love as we go through life.

So our lesson today from the two cliffs, Bozez and Seneh, is to remember God's faithfulness. That helps us trust Him when things are scary.

God, thanks for giving us cliffs to remind us of You.
