what died in the flood

Today we read from Genesis 8:1-10:32 in the One Year Bible. And it raises an interesting question. See, if you read the text closely, God gave us fruit and vegetables to eat before the flood. And then AFTER the flood He gave us meat to eat. It makes you wonder if there were types of plants that gave us nutritious foods that made eating meat unnecessary, but those plants were killed in the flood?

In any case, you see how wonderfully God takes care of us. He gives us a solemn vow that He will never destroy the earth by flood again. And He once again renews our orders: be fruitful and multiply.

God, thank You for providing for our needs, and for giving us a purpose.
